What is Microsoft Authenticator and Why do I need it?

Microsoft Authenticator is a free app that helps you sign in to all your accounts without using a password - just use a fingerprint, face recognition, or a PIN.

What happens if I get a new phone or am unable to access Authenticator for Login?

If you lose, break or get a new cell phone, be sure to try and keep the phone until you transfer your passkeys. If not possible contact IT Services for assistance removing the requirement temporarily or getting a YubiKey.

What is a Passkey and Why do I need one?

Passkeys provide a more streamlined and secure method of authentication. The move to Passkeys is part of the UA Systems security for accounts and computer systems.

Do I need a Smartphone to use Passkey?

Passkeys are implemented through the Microsoft Authenticator app, which runs on a smart phone.

Bluetooth functionality is required to use passkey. What if my computer or phone doesn't have Bluetooth?

Yes Bluetooth is required on a computer to use Passkey. You can alternatively use a YubiKey. Contact IT Services for Bluetooth assistance on College Systems.
